Anonymous submissions: share your POV, no retribution

There is the conversation that happens in the meeting, and then there is the real conversation that happens in the DMs, or in the pub after work. The second one is where the truth usually lives.

We self-censor. We do it for good reasons: to keep a job, to maintain a client relationship, to avoid a tedious argument on social media. We sand down the sharp edges of our observations until they are smooth, palatable, and fundamentally less useful.

Most platforms try to solve for this by enforcing a particular brand of ‘civil discourse’. They create spaces that are safe, but sterile. The price of admission is to defang your argument before you’ve even made it. Moderators police tone, and in doing so, often strangle the underlying idea. The result is a performance of thoughtfulness, not the real thing.

The alternative is not a free-for-all. Anonymity is often blamed for the web’s worst impulses, but that’s a failure of design, not a failure of the concept itself. The problem is rewarding outrage. The solution is to create a structure that rewards insight.

Today, I’m opening up an anonymous submissions channel. The brief is simple: send us the opinion you would share if you knew it was completely safe to do so. The take you’ve been turning over in your mind but could never attach your name to.

My role in this is not to be a censor, a moderator, or a ghostwriter. It is to be a custodian. The platform’s job is to guarantee, with absolute certainty, that you can share a difficult idea without fear of professional or social retribution. We hold the safety so you don’t have to water down the take. Your identity is not the point; your idea is.

This is not a space for gossip, personal attacks, or illegal activity. It is a space for systemic critique and uncomfortable truths. It’s for the engineer who sees a catastrophic flaw in a popular architecture, the strategist who believes their entire industry is chasing a vanity metric, the designer who sees ethics being traded for engagement.

These are the ideas that get lost. They are risky. They threaten established hierarchies and question lucrative orthodoxies. The person holding them is fragile, exposed. The idea itself, however, might be robust and vital. By separating the two, we give the idea a chance to be heard on its own merits.

We will publish the strongest of these submissions. They will be raw, and some will be unsettling. They will be presented without apology, because their purpose is not to comfort, but to clarify. The value is not in their politeness, but in their precision.
